A group of 65 fundraisers have put their feet to the test in an epic fire and Lego challenge to raise money for Brian House Children’s Hospice.
Along with event partner, UK Firewalks, Brian House offered people the chance to walk barefoot across over 20ft of embers burning at more than 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit! Or they could opt to walk barefoot over 10,000 Lego bricks. Some daring fundraisers took on both challenges at Poolfoot Farm, Thornton, on Saturday evening. And the event has raised an incredible£12,000 for Brian House – the only children’s hospice on the Fylde coast supporting children and young people with life-limiting illness. Among those taking part was Jackie Bullock who took on the Firewalk and raised £495 in sponsorship. She said: “I’m really proud of myself. I set a target of £50 so to have raised so much from my friends and family is amazing.“The walk itself was great. My feet felt a bit tingly but I didn’t feel anything. I’d definitely recommend it to others as an interesting way of raising money for this wonderful charity. “That atmosphere at Poolfoot Farm was brilliant. Everyone was really supporting each other and it really was just a fabulous event.” Every penny raised will help Brian House plan exceptional care for local children and their families, from fun days out to overnight stays at the hospice in Bispham. Events Fundraiser Danny Hickes said: “This has been our best ever Firewalk event, with more people taking on the challenge and raising more money in sponsorship for their bravery.“ We were excited to be able to add the Lego walk this year too, which was as popular with our younger fundraisers as it was with some of our older challengers. “Overall it was a fantastic event, which has raised an incredible amount of money to allow Brian House to care for brave local children and their families.
“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the night, to Poolfoot Farm and UK Firewalks. We can’t wait to do it again! ”The charity’s next major fundraising event is the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run which will raise vital funds for Trinity Hospice on Sunday 11th May.
